We aim at offering a wide range of the extant corpus of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts, miniatures as well as incunabula and early printing and thus attempt to include all facets of the history of the book in providing a complex inventory of museum quality.
Apart from religious books like bibles, books of hours, prayer books and liturgical instructions you will find philosophical and historical works as well as vernacular courtly and popular literature in manuscript and print. Quite consistently, we are able to present books that have been illuminated and illustrated by important artists like Albrecht Durer, Hans Burgkmair, Simon Bening and Stefan Lochner. Moreover, we offer milestones in the category of scientific books, comprising herbals and medical treatises, books about the art of war, mechanics and architecture as well as mathematical and astronomic tracts. Currently, the age of great discoveries is well represented with early atlases and travel accounts varying from Marco Polo to Columbus and Magellan.
