242 leaves. 31 large arch-topped miniatures in full borders and 24 small miniatures in the borders of the calendar, with zodiacal signs and monthly occupations. Blue velvet binding over wooden boards.

This is a so far unknown Book of Hours by the Master of Jean Rolin with an abundant number of large miniatures, especially for the gospels and suffrages, whereas in standard Books of Hours these are mostly accompanied by small images.

This master’s creativity also convinces in the design of interiors. The portraits of the evangelists in their studies and the Virgin Mary’s room in the Annunciation scene provide insightful impressions on the furnishings and tools of 15th-century studies and libraries.

This Book of Hours is a true gem, lavishly illustrated with many miniatures that allow us to study the style of this brilliant master in detail. François Avril confirmed to us that this Book of Bours is a particularly high-quality work, handcrafted by the master of Jean Rolin. A stroke of luck for art history!
